    Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox Team) set a record-breaking lap time of 1m30.370s at the Donington Park circuit to power to his 14th Superbike career pole. The Australian, who turned 38 yesterday, was seven tenths clear of second-placed Yamaha man, Noriyuki Haga and a full second quicker than Régis Laconi (Kawasaki) and James Toseland (Honda), who make up the front row of the grid.     Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox Team) set the pace in first qualifying for the European Round of the World Superbike Championship at a cold and damp Donington Park today. The Australian's time of 1m32.333s was well inside the long-standing best lap set by Neil Hodgson in 2000 although it is the first time World Superbikes have raced at Donington since 2001.     This weekend sees the third round of the World Superbike Championship come to Donington Park for the first of three rounds in the UK. Donington hosted the very first championship round on 3rd April 1988 and it is returning to the circuit for the first time in six years to mark the championship's 20th anniversary. Read more.....

    Reigning British MX1 champion Ken De Dycker - CAS Honda narrowly increased his lead at the top of the current championship standings, as he repeated his round one victory by taking the overall honours at the second meeting of the 2007 series held at Landrake, Devon. The Belgian rider now heads the Irish ex domestic titleholder Gordon Crockard - PAR Honda by a mere ten points, after the Ulsterman again filled the runners up spot on the day.     Despite the cold and wet weather conditions Hawk Kawasaki are pleased with the progress they made at the pre season test at Snetterton at the weekend, 23rd - 25th March.     Valentino Rossi returned to the top step of the podium today after leading for all 27-laps of the Grand Prix of Spain, taking his first victory since Sepang last year and his 46th win of the four-stroke MotoGP era. Rossi's 26th win for Yamaha also makes him the most successful rider at Jerez in the premier class, with five wins at the Spanish track. He was joined for the podium celebrations by his team-mate Colin Edwards, who rode a strong race from fourth on the grid to stay in contention behind Dani Pedrosa, eventually finishing third and taking his seventh MotoGP podium in front of a record crowd of 138,000.     Dougie Lampkin could only manage fifth place at the second round of the Spanish domestic outdoor championship held near Tarragona earlier today. Lampkin arrived at today's venue, which sits approximately one hundred kilometres South of the city of Barcelona, in a confident mood, having scored a convincing victory at an international invitation indoor event held in France late on Friday night. However despite his confidence Dougie endured a difficult day, during which he felt he was 'harshly' penalised on two occasions, which prevented him finishing closer to his rivals. Read more.....

    Valentino Rossi will start from second position for tomorrow's Grand Prix of Spain in Jerez after an exciting and extremely close qualifying battle today, while his team-mate Colin Edwards will be just behind him in fourth having lost out on third position in the dying moments of the session.     The 2007 Spanish Motorcycling Grand Prix will be celebrating next weekend its particular motorbike party. After the sun and the sand at the first round staged in Qatar a couple of weeks ago, Jerez will be offering sun, atmosphere, thousands of fans and a big motorbike party that will start softly on Friday to finish spectacularly on Sunday with the three races. For the riders, Spaniards or foreigners, the southern Spanish race has always something special, because they will hardly experience the atmosphere of that weekend in any other place along the season.     Troy Bayliss's love affair with the Valencia circuit continued as the Australian set the quickest time on both qualifying (1m34.102s) and race tyres (1m34.482s) in the two-day official FGSport tests at the Spanish venue. His quickest time, obtained with just a few minutes to go, was half-a-second faster than the circuit's official outright best lap set by Neil Hodgson (Ducati) in 2003, but four-tenths of a second off Troy's own extraordinary performance in testing exactly one year ago.     February new motorcycle registration figures brought continued good news to the UK motorcycle industry with an increase of 7.8% compared to February 2006.     The new F4 R312 from MV Agusta is the result of developments on the track; "three hundred and twelve" is the top speed in kmh (194 mph). With the F4 1000 R MV Agusta was the protagonist last season in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup production series. Unlike others, it is style that adds to the MV machines lined up on the starting grid.     British Motocross fans are in for another treat this Sunday when the Sidcup Club hosts the opening round of the 2007 ACU Maxxis British Motocross Championship at the famous Canada Heights circuit in Kent. Not only have all of the top British riders entered, the club are also pleased to announce they have used the wildcard rule to the limit with the full allocation of four being used in the MX1 class. Following a decision taken some time before, Paolo Ciabatti, the Ducati Corse Superbike director, will be leaving the Italian company to embark on a new professional career. Paolo has worked for Ducati since 1997 and has made a major contribution to the growth and the success of the company, as well as to Ducati's numerous Riders' and Manufacturers' title wins in the World Superbike Championship.     Fiat Yamaha Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards got the first ever Grand Prix of the new 800cc era off to a flying start in Qatar today, both lapping comfortably under the 990cc circuit record and finishing the day in first and second places after two free practice sessions. Following a long winter of testing it was a relief for the team to finally get the season underway, with this the first time the championship has begun outside Europe since Rossi's historic first win with Yamaha in South Africa in 2004. Valentino was clearly enthused by the abilities of the newest R-series product, finding it well suited to the fast layout of the Losail circuit in Qatar. "First impressions are great," said Vale. "I think it's a good step from the previous R1. The first difference in the feeling on the track is from the engine. It has a lot more power from the bottom; when you open the throttle the engine is more eager to accelerate. From that point of view it's a lot easier to ride. Also, there is a very different feeling from the chassis. The bike feels a lot smaller, more compact, so there is a gain in agility; it is also more precise at the entry of the corner."     Unfortunately for visitors and competitors alike, the heavy rain predicted by the weather forecasters in the days prior to the event materialised as planned, and did its best to play havoc with the ninth edition of the Hawkstone Park International moto-x held throughout yesterday. Following the prolonged period of wet weather in the weeks before the meeting, there were fears that this season's opening competition would have to be cancelled. However thanks to the titanic efforts of Salop Motor Club and its helpers, just under eight thousand loyal and brave fans turned out to witness a great day of racing despite the severity of the elements.
