Sete Gibernau's records

Sete Gibernau

Sete Gibernau has spent his childhood among motorbikes, especially thanks to the relationship with Don Paco Bultò, founder of the Spanish motorbike brand, Bultaco.

After trying many different bike categories, in particular those built by his uncle, he finally turned to high-speed racing in 1996, when World Champion Wayne Rainey supported him in the Open Ducados competition. The young rider from Barcelona ran for one year with a 250 Yamaha, then, from 1997, moved up to the top 500cc class and ended in thirteenth position.

For the following two years, Sete Gibernau ran with two different bikes, unfortunately left free by their injured riders: Takuma Aoki's two cylinder in 1998 and Mick Doohan's V4 Honda in 1999. The latter has been a fantastic season (with four podium finishes), exceeding all expectations and enabling Sete in year 2000 to sign a contract with Honda Repsol as Alex Crivillè and Tadayuki Okada's team-mate. But the 2000 season with Honda wasn't as good as the previous one: in fact, the Spaniard finished only fifteenth in the Championship.

The following year, Sete joined the Telefonica Movistar Suzuki Team riding a 500 RGV and managed to win his first GP race in Valencia. Then, after a year spent riding the four-stroke XREO bike together with Kenny Roberts Jr., Sete joined Fausto Gresini's Team Telefonica MoviStar Honda for the 2003 season.

With this team, Sete has been able to express himself at his best and experienced the most incredible season in his career. He won four fantastic races and stepped on the podium 10 times overall, becoming the Vice World Champion in the end and no doubt one of the top riders of motorcycle racing.
