2009 Tokyo Motor Show Yamaha Concept
Models
Yamaha debuts new concept models at 41st Tokyo Motor
Show
Creating product performance that appeals to human
sensibilities. That’s the principle used by
Yamaha Motor when developing motorcycles and scooters.
We value human perceptions more than hard spec numbers.
At the root of this philosophy are Yamaha’s
Smart Power ideals. Smart Power is about looking to
electricity and other alternative power sources –
to produce vehicles which combine environmentally-friendly
performance with completely new kinds of riding pleasure.
It is a concept that might, for example, take the
design freedom allowed by the structural simplicity
of an EV (Electric Vehicle), or the start-up acceleration
potential of an HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) –
then turn these qualities into new forms of enjoyment
or surprise.
Yamaha Smart Power solutions can be seen at the 41st
Tokyo Motor Show in the following concept models:
Yamaha EC-03
The
EC-03 is a 100% electric powered commuter vehicle,
developed with a concept of “Light, Smart, Clean
and Silent.” Its slim electric power unit and
lithium-ion battery are mounted on a lightweight aluminum
frame. Yamaha-exclusive motor control technology provides
smooth start-ups and acceleration. The charger is
built into the vehicle, for easy recharging from a
home electric outlet.
[Power unit]= Permanent magnet type synchronous motor
[Rated output]= Equivalent to 50cc license category
at less than 0.6 kW
[Battery type]= Lithium-ion battery
[Charger type] = Onboard plug-in type
Yamaha EC-f/EC-fs
The
EC-f and EC-fs are electric commuter vehicles designed
to provide easy, motorcycle-style riding for people
of all age ranges and experience levels. They combine
futuristic styling with the ease of use, quietness
and smoothness that only an electric vehicle can provide.
The EC-f features colouring which accentuates its
clean, commuter-oriented design, while the EC-fs offers
a stylish alternative colour scheme.
Yamaha HV-X
The
HV-X fits a compact hybrid system into a motorcycle
design. As a hybrid it offers environmentally-conscious
performance, with low emissions and improved fuel
efficiency - while still providing the high-quality
acceleration and pleasurable cruising performance
of a conventional motorcycle.
Yamaha Motor continues to research and develop smarter,
more compact, hybrid motorcycle designs. This forms
part of our corporate mission: to achieve both environmentally
sound performance and Kando.
Yamaha PAS Brace-L Special
PAS
bicycles were developed and marketed by Yamaha Motor
as the world’s first electro-hybrid bicycles,
running on a combination of human pedaling power and
an electric motor. They were originally released in
limited areas of Japan in 1993 and nationwide in 1994.
The PAS Brace-L Special is an electro-hybrid bicycle
with a sporty style and riding performance, with male
riders as its primary target group. Incorporated is
the Yamaha S.P.E.C.8 (Shift Position Electric Control
x in-hub 8-speed gear mechanism); this provides an
appropriate assist level for each gear, ensuring a
sporty ride in all conditions and speed ranges, from
start-ups and acceleration to cruising. The concept
model is stylishly outfitted with a quality finish
and special parts.
[Length x Width]= 1,760mm x 550mm
[Seat height]= 820 - 1,000mm
[Wheelbase]= 1,115mm
[Tire size] = 26-inch front & rear
[Vehicle weight] = 23.1kg
[Motor rated output] = 240W
[Battery type] = Lithium-ion battery
[Battery voltage/capacity]= 25.2V/8.1Ah
[Charging time] = Approx. 4hrs.
PAS er (Special exhibition vehicle)
The PAS er is a prototype model, developed on the
concept of a more advanced hybrid relationship between
the rider and the motor. It adopts a two-wheel-drive
mechanism that applies the electric motor “assist”
to both the front and rear wheels, and an automatic
electronic transmission. These features contribute
to a smooth, enjoyable ride, even over changing road
surface conditions. The motor of the front wheel features
a regenerative function that charges the battery during
deceleration or downhill riding.
There is also a sensor that monitors the rider’s
heart rate and adjusts the assist level, helping to
maintain an appropriate level of rider exertion. To
accompany this function, there is a large LCD meter
panel with a speedometer and multi-information display
showing calorie consumption etc. The model also features
shaft drive and styling defined by a simple, modern
design.
[Length x Width]= 1,600mm x 525mm
[Seat height]= 820 - 1,000mm
[Wheelbase]= 1,080mm
[Tire size]= 20-inch front & rear
[Motor rated output]= Front wheel hub motor 100W center
motor 150W
[Battery type]= Lithium-ion battery
