Warr’s signs Canadian Champ
25th March 2010
Warr’s Harley-Davidson is delighted
to announce the signing of a former multiple motorsport
champion Darren James to its racing team. Canadian
Thunder Champion James will contest a Warr’s
Harley-Davidson® XR1200® race bike in the
inaugural Harley-Davidson XR1200® Trophy race
series at the 2010 British Superbike Championship.
Warr’s Harley-Davidson, which was established
in 1924 on London’s Kings Road, is Europe’s
oldest and most successful Harley-Davidson® retail
group. The dealership has a successful pedigree in
two-wheel motorsport, including winning the British
Harley-Davidson XL883 Race Series two years running.
Warr’s Harley-Davidson also has extensive experience
racing Harley-Davidson and Buell® motorcycles
across Europe and the USA.
Canadian-born James, who is the team manager of race
team Ruthless Racing Inc., began his motorcycling
career at just three years old, and has since competed
in numerous championships across the USA and Canada.
During his career, James benefited from support from
Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada, but it was his
prowess that established him as four-time Canadian
Thunder Champion.
Most recently, James won the 2009 West Coast Championship
in both the 600 and Thunder classes. However, this
year he joins forces with former MotoGP star, Jeremy
McWilliams, on this side of the Atlantic to participate
with the Warr’s Harley-Davidson race team in
the XR1200 Trophy race series.
“We are delighted to have Darren James on board
in the Warr’s team, and we are prepared and
looking forward to the best of seasons,” says
Warr’s Harley-Davidson Managing Director John
Warr. “Racing Harleys is in our blood here at
Warr’s, so let there be no doubt about our ambitions
for 2010.”
The XR1200 Trophy, which is officially supported
by Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland, is designed to
attract a varied mix of Clubman, Superbike and Superstock
contenders as well as younger stars looking to develop
their racing skills. The series kicks off at Oulton
Park in Cheshire on 1-3 May. Subsequent events will
be staged at Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Knockhill
and Mallory Park, and all races will be shown on British
Eurosport.
