XR1200 Trophy Revamped
23rd March 2009
Harley-Davidson UK and its associated
partners are pleased to announce their increased
commitment to the Henderson Harley-Davidson XR1200
Trophy. The brand new race series, which was originally
due to take place at ten rounds of the 2009 British
Superbike Championship (BSB), has been revamped
and will now run in a two-stage format over the
next two years.
The 2009 season will be a testing and development
year. Harley-Davidson will run a selection of race
bikes at every BSB event and use legendary motorcycle
racers to help develop them ahead of an exciting World
Cup event at Silverstone in September. Riders from
other European XR1200 race series will also be invited
to compete against an all-star British team –
completing the testing programme in style.
Title sponsor of the series, Henderson Insurance
Brokers, tyre supplier Dunlop and race kit manufacturer
Harris Performance will continue to be involved in
the 2009 development programme and will be working
together to ensure that the race series is a thundering
success in 2010. Dealer and individual registrations
for the 2010 race series will open on 27 September
2009.
“We’re really excited to be able to extend
the Henderson Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy race series
over two years,” explains Harley-Davidson UK
& Ireland Marketing Manager Greg Willis. “We’re
following the already-successful model of the Italian
XR1200 race series, which featured an extended lead-in
programme before a one-off competitive event at the
end of the first year.
“The UK championship will run as originally
planned in 2010 and is a fantastic opportunity for
us to demonstrate the bike’s capabilities on
the track. With an entry price of around £12,000,
it will also be one of the cheapest national racing
classes.”
