2010 XR1200 Trophy race series registration
open
2nd October 2010
Following
almost a year of development with Harris Performance,
Harley-Davidson UK and British Superbike Championship
(BSB) race series organisers, MSVR, have opened registrations
for the 2010 Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy one-make
championship. Development riders including BSB bad
boy Sean Emmett, former GP rider Niall Mackenzie and
a host of experienced motorcycle journalists have
provided test ride feedback for the process.
Ongoing dealer communication has already resulted
in the sale of four race motorcycles for next year’s
series and a host of other Harley-Davidson UK dealers
have shown serious interest in providing entrants
for the XR1200 Trophy championship. Blade Motorsport
– representing the Oxford and Cheltenham Harley-Davidson
dealerships – took part in parade laps aboard
their race bike at Silverstone International Race
Circuit on Sunday 27 September as part of the 2009
BSB calendar.
London-based Warr’s Harley-Davidson has also
confirmed entry into the series and is in the process
of preparing its three race machines. In addition
to the 34-strong UK and Ireland dealer network, individual
competitors – holding an ACU Clubman licence
or above – are entitled to enter.
With a cost of less than £13,000 for entry
into the ten-race, eight event series, demand is expected
to be high. Entry into the series includes an XR1200™
motorcycle, a full race kit developed by Harris Racing
and a season-long tyre deal with Dunlop.
The
race calendar for 2010 is yet to be confirmed, but
events will be staged at Brands Hatch, Donington Park,
Silverstone, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park, Knockhill
and Snetterton between April and September and all
races will be shown on British Eurosport live or delayed
highlights.
“Our plans to launch this race series in 2009
were perhaps a little ambitious given the short lead
time available and the impact of the global recession,”
says Harley-Davidson Europe’s Greg Willis. However,
the delay in launch has given us the opportunity to
work with Harris Performance to develop a really exciting
race package for the XR1200™ motorcycle.
“The feedback we’ve received from development
riders has been very positive and many have found
that the bikes far exceeded their expectations. The
dealer support that we’ve received is also extremely
encouraging and to have four entries before registrations
even open is fantastic.”
Competitors interested in the series should visit
a local dealer for further information or email xr1200trophy@rbpinternational.com.
