2009 Royal Enfield Bullet Classic
500

The Royal Enfield Bullet has for decades been the
byword for rugged, refined cool
and a bike handcrafted to perfection. Royal Enfield
is now proud to present the new
Bullet Classic, a modern reworking of the old legend,
taking its styling cues from the
simplicity of the original 1950’s machine and
combining the celebrated design and
heritage with technological innovations of today.
The original heart and soul are intact. The post
World War II styling, body coloured frame,
die-cast headlight casing, fuel tank with post war
graphics, thigh pads and single saddle
seat with springs of the original remain. But now,
the state of the art, Euro III compliant, fully
integrated, electronically fuel injected, 500cc engine
brings the Bullet roaring into the future.
Royal Enfield has returned to its roots to give today’s
riders the taste of motorcycling as was originally
conceived.
With a pedigree dating back to the 1940’s and
‘50’s, mated with the latest technological
advances, manufacturing processes and quality control,
the Bullet Classic 500 looks and feels like a classic
British bike but with the benefit of modern reliability
and performance.
Royal Enfield aimed not only to create a form inspired
by the golden era of motorcycling, but also to recreate
the feelings of that time in the rider. The traditional
sprung saddle and unique fall of the handlebars serve
to provide a comfortable, natural perch to enjoy the
easy going long-stroke single cylinder unit construction
engine, which is inspired from the Clipper 250 in
the annals of Royal Enfield history. So both engine
and riding position generate feelings of freedom,
leisure and lack of pressure.
Although inspired from history, the 500 Bullet Classic
is equipped with an electronic fuel injection system,
catalytic converters and hydraulic pushrods to ensure
reduced maintenance and modern standards of reliability.
The major challenge for designers in this project
lay in adopting the EFI components like fuel pump,
fuel injector and catalytic converter to a motorcycle
which should have a feel of a classic British machine.
All electronic & advanced-looking components
were positioned in such a way so as to blend into
being better features of the bike.
Meanwhile the body painted steel frame, the fuel
tank cap and the extensive polishing on the engine
are just a few examples of the intention to retain
a resemblance of period manufacturing processes and
component finishes to preserve the charm of this modern
classic.
Available in three colour schemes – black,
metallic green or metallic red – the 500 Bullet
Classic is a 21st century classic.
