Harley-Davidson introduces essential
new element

26th January 2009
Following
the successful launch of Dark Custom at the 2008 International
Motorcycle and Scooter Show, Harley-Davidson has today
introduced a new motorcycle to the line-up –
in the form of the XL 883N Iron™. Priced at
just £5,375 on the road – less than its
Roadster® and Custom counterparts – the
new model provides an excellent entry-level opportunity
to the stylish Dark Custom range.
The XL 883N Iron™ evokes memories of the rebellious
nature of the original Sportsters® while pushing
motorcycle minimalism to the edge with its stripped
down styling, front fork gaiters and drag style handlebars.
Decked in black from fender to fender, the new Harley-Davidson®
Iron™ 883 benefits from the 883 Evolution™
engine, responsive handling, smooth clutch effort
and a durable carbon reinforced drive belt.
A black powder-coated 883cc Evolution™ powertrain
with black covers boosts the machine’s performance
and style credentials. Teamed with Electronic Sequential
Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning
with a flat torque curve, the Iron™ delivers
plenty of power for city cruising, while the distinctive
V-Twin sound rumbles from pipes on the straight cut,
short dual exhaust.
“This is a fantastic looking motorcycle that
we expect to appeal to a younger group of potential
Harley-Davidson customers,” says Harley-Davidson
UK and Ireland Marketing Manager, Greg Willis. “Our
new Dark Custom range drew a huge amount of interest
and attention at last year’s International Motorcycle
and Scooter Show and the Iron™ provides an amazingly
low investment opportunity for entry into an aspirational
brand that continues to produce innovative motorcycles.”
Available in Black Denim and Brilliant Silver Denim
colours, the Iron’s dark theme continues with
black cast aluminium wheels, front forks and fender
supports, air box cover, oil tank, belt guard, drag
style handlebars and mid-mount front foot controls.
The black chopped rear fender with its combination
stop/turn/tail lights show more of the 150mm rear
tyre. A passenger pillion and/or backrest can be added
to complement the classic Sportster® solo seat
with a height of 643mm.
The Harley-Davidson XL 883 Iron™ will make
its UK debut on stand N560, hall N15 at the MCN London
Motorcycle Show at ExCel between 29 January and 1
February 2009.
