2009 Aprilia Scarabeo 300 Special

In continuous evolution, the Scarabeo family welcomes
the new apprival. elegant and sporty, rich in character
and unmistakably Scarabeo, this is the debut of the
new 300 Special.
The unique style and meticulous attention to detail
have made the Scarabeo an icon on wheels. A real one-of-a-kind,
which stands out from the crowd with style. Scarabeo
is more than just a scooter, it’s the vehicle
that epitomizes riding pleasure and moving in harmony
with the world: the powerful, fuel-conscious and environmentally-friendly
engines, the perfectly balanced chassis and the motorbike
riding style, put the Scarabeo at the top of its class
as the only lightweight bike of our times.
The wide range is now complete with the arrival of
the Scarabeo 300 Special, an ideal cylinder capacity
for a truly timeless scooter, which in this configuration
offers that additional sporty touch sure to be appreciated
by more get-up-and-go users. The right compromise
between performance, agility and riding pleasure is
emphasized by the particularly detailed graphics and
black wheels, an additional touch of plucky style.
The low windshield, the new trim and dash enrich this
very Special version of the Scarabeo.
Maximum attention to detail, excellent ergonomic
design, and full on-board equipment, the 300 Special
guarantees a safe and relaxing ride. The space designed
for the driver and passenger makes even the longest
trips comfortable. The seat is just 785 mm off the
ground, and the footboard narrows where the drivers
puts their legs down so anyone can easily reach the
ground. On the Special, attention to detail was a
real obsession for the designers, making the Scarabeo
300 Special extremely good value for money.
The Engine
The engine of the 300 is the best compromise between
performance, light weight and agility. A modern cylinder
capacity in an engine that makes the most of torque
and acceleration, to make your trips fast, relaxing,
and safe.
The single-cylinder, four-valve engine has electronic
injection and represents the state-of-the-art for
this type of unit. The fuel injection system of the
latest generation, antivibration countershaft and
automatic transmission perfectly matched to the characteristics
of the engine, make the Scarabeo 300 Special sporty
and extremely comfortable in any situation.
With a perky engine, but also extremely easy to handle
for any rider, producing 22.3 HP and a maximum torque
of 22 Nm at 6,500 rpm, the Scarabeo 300 Special offers
excellent performance and that’s not all: the
precise calibration of the fuel injection system guarantees
low exhaust emissions and fuel consumption comparable
to that of engines with a smaller cylinder capacity,
which – with a fuel tank capacity of 10 litres,
gives you the autonomy of a tourer.
The Chassis
The aim of the designers and technicians at Noale
has always been to combine the greatest comfort with
the greatest riding pleasure, and this has been our
goal for years, when designing motorbikes and scooters.
The result - in the case of the Scarabeo – meant
a weight distribution very similar to that of a motorcycle
and as a consequence handling and agility which have
become a point of reference for the sector.
The double cradle frame is made from high-tensile
tubular steel and is specially designed for excellent
torsional rigidity and strength. This rigid and efficient
frame gives the Scarabeo 300 Special impeccable stability
at high speeds.
The telescopic hydraulic fork guarantees excellent
precision and optimal damping thanks to the generous
travel of 104 mm.
The engine and transmission assembly also acts as
a swingarm and is damped by two double acting, adjustable
shock absorbers. The shock absorbers can be adjusted
to four different spring preload positions, so that
riders can obtain maximum suspension efficiency for
all loads and road surfaces.
Large diameter wheels (16” at the front and
14” at the rear) and tubeless tyres with a motorcycle
style profile (110/70 at the front and 140/70 at the
rear) guarantee superb road-holding.
With the combined braking system the left brake lever
brakes both wheels, so the rider can always rely on
powerful braking power, safety and control on all
road surfaces. The scooter is fitted with a 260 mm
front disc and a 240 mm rear disc.
Load Capacity and Equipment
As always, the load capacity is an essential element
when choosing a scooter and under-seat space has always
been “the weak point” of high-wheel scooters,
a weak point the Scarabeo 300 Special doesn’t
have. Despite its compact dimensions, low seat and
large wheels, the Scarabeo 300 has an under-seat storage
compartment big enough to hold a full-face helmet
and other personal effects, and even an A3 size briefcase,
thanks to 15 centimetres of depth throughout. There
is even another lockable storage compartment in the
back of the leg shield.
In addition to all this standard storage space, you
can add an (optional) 47-litre top box that is beautifully
easy to install on the standard luggage rack.
The analog-digital instruments, with new graphics
and dash trim, provide all the information you could
possibly want. The compact display even includes a
fuel gauge.
