2006 Aprilia SR 50 R Factory

Aprilia SR 50 R Factory

Aprilia's SR 50 has set the pace for scooter technology ever since it was introduced in 1992. With the SR 50, Aprilia was the first manufacturer to offer a real sports scooter, creating a whole new market segment. Despite numerous attempts by the competition over the years, the SR 50 has remained the undisputed market leader, thanks to continuous upgrades in technology that have kept it beyond the reach of other scooters. The SR has set records at an incredible rate.

  • 1992: the SR 50 was the first ever sports scooter
  • 1993: the SR 50 was the first ever Racing Replica scooter
  • 1994: the SR 50 was the first ever sports scooter with liquid cooling
  • 1997: the SR 50 was the first ever scooter with two disc brakes
  • 1999: the SR 50 was the first ever 50 cc scooter with electronic fuel
  • injection.

    On top of all this, the SR 50 has always been instantly recognisable for its "big bike" characteristics like large diameter wheels, super-low profile tyres and top quality hydraulic suspensions.

    The Aprilia SR 50 is universally recognised as the scooter to beat, as sales of over 800,000 units show. The SR has become a legend in its own time. It is also the scooter most in demand by young riders and all those who have a passion for sport and the world of motorcycle racing. More than a scooter, the SR is a way of life.

    Factory Technology;

    The best is not good enough for Aprilia! Research is continuous and unstoppable and the epoch-making innovations only recently introduced on Aprilia's technological flagship, the RSV 1000, have already made their appearance on the new SR too. The SR resembles the RSV 1000 R Factory not just in appearance but in technical solutions too.

    Now the SR is completely new. More modern in style, this latest SR also boasts better performance, reduced fuel consumption and greater reliability thanks to a second generation Ditech fuel injected engine. It even has a brand new frame for better than ever "big bike" handling. And when it comes to equipment, the SR 50 Factory is the flagship the others have to beat.

    Style: A Baby RSV;

    The SR 50's uncompromising sports look accurately replicas the world of racing. As always, Aprilia is not content to offer the best technology available, but insists on the best design too. Technology and passion go hand in hand on the SR 50 R Factory. Its aggressive styling is clearly inspired by the RSV 1000 R Factory to guarantee head-turning beauty and emotion-packed riding.

    See the SR 50 R Factory once and you'll agree. It really is a "baby RSV". Family feeling is clear not just from the graphics, but from the technical solutions too.

    The streamlined leg-shield, powerful twin headlights, central air intake, and aerodynamic tail with integrated tail light and indicators are all just like those fitted to Aprilia's supersports flagship. On the SR 50 R Factory attention to detail has reached heights never previously seen on any sports scooter. Even the colour schemes are new, aggressive and lively, just as they should be on a sports machine that refuses to compromise.

    Engine: Record Bbeaking Technology;

    The first ever scooter equipped with a fuel injected two stroke engine is now powered by a second generation Ditech engine. A new, more compact air filter and a special new exhaust design have increased performance and further reduced the engine's already miserly fuel consumption.

    This generous 50 cc single cylinder engine also boasts a long list of innovations to improve functioning and make it more reliable than ever, so much so that the service interval has been doubled, from 6000 to 12000 kilometres, making the SR 50 more economical than ever to run.

    All the other great features of this fantastic engine, built to combine unrivalled performance with incredible fuel consumption, remain unchanged. Let's look briefly at the main features of Ditech engine technology:

  • Negligible fuel consumption: up to 100 km on just 2 litres
  • 60% less oil consumption than a carburettor engine
  • Higher power and exceptional performance: the SR 50 R Factory achieves record times over 100 metres, well below those of any conventionally powered scooter
  • Smoother power than conventional carburettor engines for an exceptional ride even at partial throttle settings and low speeds
  • Tremendous reliability, extended life and easy maintenance
  • Even combustion, constant idling speed, and instant starting at all temperatures
  • Dramatically reduced emissions, conforming easily to EURO 3 future standards.
  • Great comfort with absolutely no smoke or soot.
  • The entire system is controlled from the instrument panel which can even perform engine control unit diagnostics over a K line connection. The SR 50 R Factory is also equipped with electronically controlled fuel and oil pumps.
  • Extremely low fuel consumption and a generous 7 litre tank allow the SR 50 to run for extended periods without refuelling. You can easily do over 300 kilometres on one tank full.

    Frame: Precision Handling At Its Best;

    Innovations extend to the frame too. Aprilia's R&D department has once again improved the best. The SR's frame is completely new and more rigid than ever, for unrivalled handling. The Aprilia SR 50 R Factory is not "just another scooter" but the very definition of a sports machine. Excellence is intrinsic to its design.

    Extensive prototype testing has resulted in optimised weight distribution. Components like the expansion chamber and oil tank have been moved towards the front of the scooter to increase weight over the front wheel (+2% compared to the previous model), and given the new SR 50 R Factory an even more "big-bike" feel.

    The SR 50 was always been unbeatable for stability in a straight line and through bends. The new SR 50 R Factory delivers even better chassis performance, benefiting not only handling but, more importantly, safety too. Handling is incredibly easy, thanks to the precision steering and exceptional agility achieved by the new weight distribution.

    Safety and control are further guaranteed by a fantastically effective braking system, with two 190 mm discs for maximum stopping power.

    The 13" wheels are still fitted with 130/60 super-low-profile, motorcycle style tyres (that have always been a feature of the SR). This combination would be more than enough for engines far bigger than 50 cc, and offers extra assurance of great road holding under all conditions.

    Unbeatable Ergonomics And Equipment;

    The Aprilia SR 50 may be sporty but it is still, first and foremost, a scooter. Its mission in life is clear: to beat the traffic, to guarantee fun, and to deliver a comfortable ride. That is why Aprilia's design team has dedicated so much time to perfecting the ergonomics. Comfort is exceptional, thanks to a new leg shield that extends further forward than before.

    The SR 50's riding position is designed for maximum control as well as comfort, and a specially shaped seat prevents fatigue on long rides. The classic under-seat storage compartment already accommodates a full-face helmet with ease, but is now accompanied by a second compartment in the nose of the seat, providing over a litre of extra space for stowing mobile phones and other small items.

    What really sets the SR 50 R Factory aside from the competition is the high level of technology of its equipment. The components of the SR 50 link it more closely than ever with Aprilia's top supersport motorcycles and make this exceptional scooter safe to ride, eye-catching and sporty.

  • Active Matrix Digital-analog Iinstrument Panel, even more sophisticated than the unit fitted to the RSV 1000.
  • The analog rev counter is accompanied by a large size display that incorporates the functions of an on-board computer (controlled directly from the handlebars). The unit acts as a terminal for the engine electronics, and provides diagnostic functions never before found on a 50 cc scooter. Naturally, the SR 50 has all the usual instruments and function indicators, like rev counter, fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge, direction indicator and main beam, fuel reserve, clock, speedometer, and odometer. But the SR is also equipped two trip counters, a battery voltage meter, a chronometer (with memory for up to 16 lap times), journey time, average and maximum trip speed, electrical graphic warning light (for connection/indicator/ECU faults), a general warning light and a service indicator.

  • Twin 35 watt headlights with halogen bulbs for the same lighting power as the Leonardo.
  • "Big Bike" handlebar switchgear.
  • Electronic transponder with an encoded ignition key (as on the RSV 1000) that dialogs directly with the engine control unit, making it impossible to start the engine without the key, and making the SR 50 R Factory totally theft-proof.
  • Front Ram Air Intake, specially designed to improve radiator cooling.
  • Colours;

    Such an uncompromising sports scooter deserves instantly recognisable racing colours. The SR 50 R Factory replicas the graphics of the 2005 RSV 1000, and comes in three aggressive colour schemes, Speed Orange, Aprilia Black, and Aprilia White. And if you really want to stand out from the crowd there is even a Spiderman colour scheme!
