2004 Ducati Supersport

SS800 | SS1000
The Super Sport family represents the Ducati
sport bike tradition more than any other does.
Through decades of constant design evolution,
the Ducati Supersport models have become modern
motorcycling icons - with a reputation for agility,
great handling, smooth power delivery and versatility.
A confidence-inspiring ride and built with quality
throughout, the Supersport models are a great
way to enter the world of Ducati sport motorcycles.
In 2004, the Supersport family is presented
in both 800cc and 1000cc versions and will be
offered in full fairing versions only.
The 800 Desmodue and 1000 Dual Spark engines
offered for 2004 are a perfect match for the
easy handling Super Sports. The essential air-cooled
90º L-Twin Desmodue engines, with their potent
linear power delivery, high torque and simplicity
of design compliment these traditional Ducati
sport bikes well. Although straightforward design,
advanced electronic fuel injection, computer
controlled engine management and the latest
manufacturing processes ensure that the Super
Sports remain highly dependable and keep maintenance
costs low. Both the 800 and 1000 DS are equipped
with smooth shifting six speed transmissions.
A signature Ducati Trellis frame compliments
the 800 and 1000 Super Sport L-Twins for confidence-inspiring
road holding and stability. Light, rigid and
beautiful, Ducati designers place welded triangulated
thin wall ALS450 tubing only--and exactly--where
it's needed. The Ducati trellis frame gains
its advantage through design, triangulation
and material integrity -- not through volume
as is the case with the more common extruded
aluminium frames.
The entire Super Sport family is equipped with
premium Brembo Serie Oro callipers gripping
dual 320mm discs up front and a 245 mm single
disc in the rear. Steel braided brake lines
are standard equipment to ensure responsive
and potent stopping power.
Both the 800 and 1000 Super Sports share a
lightweight fully electronic instrument panel,
and come standard with an advanced anti-theft
immobiliser system.
The 800 is the perfect entry model to the Supersport
family and Ducati sport motorcycling. Although
high in value, the Super Sport 800 includes
many features that are normally expensive upgrades
on most motorcycles. Premium brakes, frame,
wheels and suspension plus the fuel injected
Desmo L-Twin engine make for a motorcycle that
will satisfy the novice and expert alike.
The 1000, featuring the potent 1000 DS engine,
blends the best of traditional Ducati sport
bike road going savy with high performance brakes,
suspension and running gear. The 1000 is a bike
with a unique personality and style for the
rider seeking the peak of performance in the
Ducati Super Sport family.
The Ducati L-Twin engine, trellis frame and
aggressive stance make the Supersport 800 immediately
recognisable as a classic Ducati sport bike.
The 2004 model features three-spoke wheels and
a boldly styled full fairing painted in either
Ducati red or Ducati yellow. Its visual statement
is enhanced with large brake discs, upside-down
forks, low handlebars, a unique swing arm and
fat tires. When at the controls, its cockpit
is all business and inspires the rider to seek
out the most tortuous twisty roads. The styling
of the SS 800 is captivatingly simple yet inspiring
in its performance image.
The metallic grey Ducati trellis frame ensures
confidence-inspiring road holding and stability.
Ducati designers place welded triangulated thin

it's needed for a frame that is light, rigid
and beautiful. The 800's performance is enhanced
by premium brakes, suspension and running gear.
Brembo Serie Oro callipers and dual 320mm discs
offer world class stopping power. Suspension
duties are handled by 43 mm Marzocchi upside-down
front forks and a fully-adjustable Sachs rear
shock for superior road holding.
The 800cc power plant of the Supersport belongs
to the very latest Ducati air-cooled Desmodue
engine generation. The features and character
that made it famous are all still there, the
90º L-shaped arrangement of the two cylinders
to the desmodromically controlled valves. However
advanced technology keeps the 800 at the forefront
of modern engine design. Computer- controlled
fuel injection and engine management make the
most of its 74.5 Hp at 8,250 revs and 7.1 kgm
of torque at 6,250 rpm, and allows the 800 to
easily meet the latest emission control regulations.
Smooth and torquey power characteristics and
simplicity of design make the Desmodue 800 a
great choice for this mid-size Super Sport.
The Ducati L-Twin engine, trellis frame and
aggressive stance make the Supersport 1000 immediately
recognisable as a classic Ducati sport bike.
The 2004 model features five-spoke Marchesini
wheels and a boldly styled full fairing painted
in either Ducati red, Ducati yellow or stylish
Ducati dark metallic grey. Its visual statement
is enhanced with high-performance Showa and
Ohlins suspension, a unique aluminium swing
arm, large brake discs, low handlebars, and
fat tires. When at the controls, its all electronic
instrument panel, with its analogue speedometer
and tachometer plus LCD screens are all business
giving extensive information about engine status
and the miles covered. In the centre of the
panel is a warning light indicating the status
of the anti-theft immobilizer system that is
standard equipment on the Super Sport 1000 DS.

Only the best chassis engineering and components
were chosen for the Supersport 1000 DS. The
metallic grey Ducati trellis frame ensures confidence-inspiring
road holding and stability. Ducati designers
place welded triangulated thin wall ALS450 tubing
only--and exactly-where it's needed for a frame
that is light, rigid and beautiful.
The suspension of the 1000 DS features Showa
fully adjustable upside-down forks. Compression
and rebound damping plus spring preload are
all easily adjusted to suit the riders individual
riding style and road conditions. Rear suspension
is controlled by an awesome Ohlins shock, also
adjustable for compression, rebound and spring
preload. Furthermore, the Ohlins shock is height
adjustable, independent from spring preload,
so a rider can adjust "ride height" and consequently
handling characteristics without affecting other
suspension settings. A race-proven braking system
includes premium Brembo Serie Oro callipers
and dual 320mm discs up front for world class
stopping power.
Introduced for first time last year, the "1000
DS" is an all-new air cooled 90° L-Twin power
plant. The design starts with completely new
cylinder heads, and further innovations that
extend to the very heart of the motor, the crankshaft.
The newly designed 1000 DS achieves an increase
in total power, more mid-range power, simplified
mechanicals, lower engine temperatures, increased
reliability, lowered emissions and lighter weight.
The 1000 DS engine is the highest performance
air-cooled twin ever produced by Ducati. Delivering
85.5 Hp at 7,750 rpm and 9 kgm of torque at
5,750 rpm, every twist of the throttle is exciting.
The Dual Spark design and electronic fuel injection
mean fluid and potent power delivery from idle
to redline. Finally, the 1000 DS utilises an
all-new aluminium clutch basket and plates for
improved durability, quieter operation and smoother
engagement. |
