After their initial training in Malaysia and a few days' rest, Repsol Honda Team riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden resumed their training schedule today at the charismatic Phillip Island circuit in southern Australia.     Dougie Lampkin recorded his best result to date in the current edition of the World indoor series when he finished fourth in Milan earlier today. Lampkin came within six seconds of qualifying for the three man final.     The Camel Yamaha Team completed their three-day test in Sepang, Malaysia today with more promising work on the new 2006-spec YZR-M1. Both Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards concentrated mainly on work for Michelin in the morning and made some important progress in this area with the tyre manufacturer. After lunch both riders then completed a long run in order to gather information about the new M1 in race conditions, and were both pleased with the performance of the bike and the improvement in times from the race in September.     Camel Yamaha Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards both made progress on the development of the 2006-spec YZR-M1 in Malaysia today, despite the day being cut short by rain. The morning saw high temperatures and building humidity at the Sepang track before it gave way to a rainstorm in the mid-afternoon.     After the Christmas holidays and nearly a month-long break, the MotoGP riders got back on track today at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, according to their 2006 pre-season work-out schedule.     Dougie Lampkin got the news that he both feared and expected, when a scan at a Barcelona clinic earlier today revealed that he is suffering from a broken rib. Whilst initial examinations following his heavy crash in Marseille over a week ago suggested nothing more than heavy bruising, a specialist told Lampkin today that his injury was worse than had first been diagnosed. Dougie has broken his ninth rib on his right hand side, which is at the lower edge of the rib cage and is basically a floating bone. Read more.....

    The Camel Yamaha Team launched its 2006 campaign today, with the first of three-days of testing in Sepang, Malaysia. After a six-week holiday the team is back at its favourite testing venue alongside other MotoGP Teams from Yamaha, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki. A cloudy morning with a few spots of rain at one stage gave way to a sunny afternoon and Yamaha's Factory Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards were able to complete a full day of testing on their new 2006-spec YZR-M1s.     Dougie Lampkin will fly back to Barcelona, Spain later tonight so that he can under go a scan tomorrow morning in an attempt to discover the full extent of his injuries, which he sustained at Marseille last weekend. Unable to practice or train during the last week, Lampkin endured another difficult outing when he could only manage sixth place at the third round of the indoor series held in Granada, Spain earlier this afternoon.     After 16 agonising days, only half of the competitors that started the 2006 Euromilhões Lisbon to Dakar Rally reached the end at Dakar today. Race to Dakar rider and six-times competitor, Simon Pavey was one of the lucky ones to finish the race and in an impressive 86th position.     Dougie Lampkin's miserable opening to 2006 continued when he suffered a freak crash mid way through the qualifying heat of the second round of the World indoor series held in Marseille, France late last night. Lampkin was left battered and bruised, and was unable to continue as he was tossed backwards off the massive step in section five. Despite suffering injuries to his ribs, back and hands, Dougie counted himself lucky to have escaped more serious injuries after his bike hit him whilst he lay helpless and winded on the arena floor.     Day nine of the Dakar certainly lived up to its billing as the toughest yet. The mammoth Mauritanian stage from Nouakchott to Kiffa was by far the biggest test yet. Not only was it the longest stage at 874km but it combined some of the toughest terrain as well. Two huge sections of dune combined with a total special stage length of nearly 600km meant the previous day's rest period was much needed. Read more.....

    As a mark of respect for the death of Australian rider Andy Caldecott, who died yesterday, the organisers agreed with the riders to neutralise the tenth stage of the rally. This meant that for the entire field of bike racers today's leg was a liaison stage and the times would not count towards their overall standings. Read more.....

    It has been an excruciating battle for any competitor in 2006 Euromilhões Lisbon to Dakar Rally to get as far as the Rest Day at Nouakchott.     Race to Dakar riders Simon Pavey and Matt Hall have successfully finished the eighth day of the 2006 Euromilhões Lisbon to Dakar Rally to arrive at the destination of the Rest Day at Nouakchott. Since the start of the Rally on 31 December 2005, competitors who have made it this far have raced over 4,900 km from Portugal, through Spain, Morocco and Mauritania and endured some of the most punishing terrain imaginable.     Charley Boorman has been forced to retire from the 2006 Euromilhões Lisbon to Dakar Rally after crashing and breaking his hand on day five of the event - one third of the way through his first Dakar rally.
