Keohane Gains Best Newcomer Award - December 1st 2004

24-Year-Old Fareham based rider Richard Keohane scooped the Most Promising Newcomers Award at the recently held MRO/Bemsee Awards Dinner. Keohane who is in his first year of racing took the honours after he won his Class with four rounds of the season still remaining.

Keohane who turned his attention to track racing this year surprised his fellow competitors by winning an incredible 28 of the 32 races he competed in. Before 2004 the Hampshire based rider had never set foot on a race track never mind ridden on one. He took to the scene like a duck to water and began to completely dominate the Rookie 400 class.

He acquired himself a Honda CBR600RR to compete the final round of the series on and having to start from 28th on the grid Keohane mastered his way through the field to take three second places and one fourth, a promising start to his 600 season in 2005.

Keohane plans on competing in all rounds of the BMCRC Championship in 2005, plus some rounds of the MRO series and is hoping to gain some entries at the British Supersport Rounds. He will be competing in the full Supersport Class throughout the season in '05, which is something he is looking forward to tremendously.

Commenting Richard said 'I'm hoping to do as much racing as possible in 2005, this year has been fantastic for my first year and I couldn't have asked for more. I'm a carpenter by trade and this certainly is a lot different from that and a lot more exciting!! Until now I had done nothing apart from ride on the roads and with some encouragement from my friends I tried my hand at track racing this year. It's been a tough year but I have enjoyed every minute of it and learnt so much. My aim and focus for 2005 is to win, it's a big expectation of myself as I know how tough the competition is but I can't wait to get started on my campaign and hopefully gain the results that will push me forward. My goal at the moment is to try and secure myself a competitive ride within a British Supersport Team, it's a long road but it's something I'm prepared to work incredible hard for.'

Richard is currently looking for Sponsorship to help him with his campaign in 2005 and would be extremely grateful for any support or backing that you can provide him with.
